Former Skyhawk Lance Bennett Completes his College Career

Former Skyhawk standout Lance Bennett, has completed his college career at Indiana University. Earlier in the season he was featured in the Street & Smith College Football and Athlon's National College Football preview magazines. Lance completed the 2005 season as the Indiana Hoosiers top return man. Lance had 10 punt returns for 66 yards and had 24 kick returns for 544 yards. His longest kick return was for 86 yards. Lance had a tougher time this season scoring TD's as the Big Ten was well aware of his talents. Lance is picking up where he left off from the 2004 season when he lodged his name into the record books at IU. On 9/11/04 vs. the University of Oregon, Lance took a kickoff return and dashed 98 yards for a touchdown and a 30-24 upset win over the Ducks. On 9/25/04 vs. Michigan State University, Lance took a punt return and raced 94 yards for a touchdown. Lance set a school record for punt returns with this effort. The previous record was 93 yards by Steve Porter against University of Wisconsin in 1970. Lance averaged 30 yards per kickoff return and 10.9 yards per punt return. He ranked 3rd nationally and 1st in the Big Ten in kickoff return average. For his efforts, Lance was named 2004 CNNSI.com honorable mention All-Ameriacn at the kick return position. When we last saw Lance in 1999, he was selected to the All-State and All-City teams when he played for Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School (Poly Prep) in Brooklyn. He was selected as team MVP in his senior year. In addition to his gridiron feats, Lance competed on the track and field team at Poly Prep where he garnered All-American honors as part of the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams. Off the field, Lance is an accomplished musician and songwriter. He co-wrote the hit from the Men In Black II soundtrack - Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head). After a few years in the music business, Lance decided to enroll at Indiana University where he teamed up with his former HS coach Dino Mangiero. Dino has left the staff due to the coaching changes after the 2004 season. Lance is 5'5" TALL AND WEIGHS 165 LBS!!!!! Good luck to Lance and we wish him the best for his future. MAKE US PROUD!!!
